The Shire of Denmark has adopted its new Council Plan, ‘Our Future 2035’, a comprehensive and community-led roadmap that will guide our decision-making and service delivery over the next decade.
Functioning as a combination of the previous ‘Our Future 2033’ and the Corporate Business Plan 2024–2028, this new Council Plan replaces these, offering a single, streamlined document incorporating the Shire’s Sustainability Strategy.
Shire President Kingsley Gibson said the new plan is not just a more accessible document but reflects the values and aspirations of Denmark’s residents.
“This Council Plan is our commitment to the community and is shaped by their feedback, focusing on delivering what matters most to Denmark,” Cr Gibson said.
‘Council Plan: Our Future 2035’ was shaped by extensive community consultation, including more than 1,700 responses to two MARKYT Community Scorecards across 3 years, which revealed environmental conservation as the highest priority for residents, followed closely by sport and recreation, youth and senior services, and access to housing.
Community members also expressed a strong desire for improved transparency, consultation, and advocacy from local government, plus a clear desire to preserve the town’s unique village lifestyle and natural beauty.
‘Council Plan: Our Future 2035’ outlines major infrastructure upgrades to Berridge Park, the Shire Depot and a revitalised Denmark Public Library following its relocation to the Visitor’s centre building, and expanded service initiatives and programs for our youth and seniors, including inclusive fitness and mental health support.
A commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2050 is embedded throughout the plan, alongside our investment in roads, trails, and bridges, and long-term planning for future sporting facilities and a public swimming pool, which is expected to be considered 10 years from now in anticipation of 2045, when the residential population reaches 10,000.
“This Council Plan is a living document, regularly reviewed and updated to ensure it remains aligned with community needs and financial realities,” Cr Gibson said.
“I sincerely thank our community for providing us with their feedback and giving us the direction they see for our future.”
