Why We Collect Your Information

The Shire of Denmark, including the Denmark Public Library, Denmark Recreation Centre and Parry Beach Campground, is bound by the Privacy and Responsible Information Sharing Act 2024 and the Information Privacy Principles set out in the Act.

We collect personal information that enables us to provide a range of local government services and functions. Examples of those services and functions include:

  • Processing applications for permits, licences or approvals
  • Delivering community services and programs
  • Managing enquiries, community engagement activities and other feedback
  • Ensuring compliance with local laws and regulations

What We Collect and How We Use It

Depending on the service or function, we may collect personal information such as:

  • Name, address and contact details
  • Date of birth and demographic information
  • Financial details (for processing payments)
  • Other relevant information for the specific purpose

When we collect your personal information, we will use it for the purpose for which it is collected, for related purposes as may be reasonably expected and where required to do so by law.

We may also use your anonymised information to help us review and improve our services.

Information Security

We are committed to safeguarding your information using secure storage systems and processes. We take all reasonably practical measures in order to protect the security of the personal information we hold and store, using both information technology security measures and physical security measures. 

Personal information we hold is managed securely in our business information systems. Our information technology systems are safeguarded against unauthorised access. We ensure that personal information we hold and store is accessed only by staff who have the necessary delegated authority or work requirement to access that information. We take these security measures in order to ensure that the personal information that is in our possession and/or control is protected from: 

  • internal and external misuse
  • unauthorised or illegal access
  • unauthorised modification
  • unauthorised disclosure

      Your Rights

      You do not have to provide your personal information to the Shire of Denmark, however if you choose to interact with the Shire anonymously, we may be unable to provide you with a requested service or respond to your request. 

      You have the right to access the information we hold about you, request corrections, and lodge a complaint if you believe your privacy has been mishandled. Please contact the Shire’s Privacy Officer at info@denmark.wa.gov.au or in writing to Shire of Denmark, PO Box 183 Denmark WA 6333.       If you are not satisfied with the Shire’s response to your request or complaint, you may refer your request or complaint to the Office of the Information Commissioner.
