Culture and Community

Culture and Community is a Sustainability Pillar in our Sustainability Strategy 2021 - 2031. The relevant key principle is: 'We value our community's cultural knowledge and sharing this with future generations'. Our objectives related to this pillar are:

Build a skilled, confident, and knowledgeable workforce who can positively respond to the challenges of sustainability and climate change
Commit to a culture of sustainability embedded into all Council activities led by the Shire Executive
Promote sustainable best practice within the broader community
Work collaboratively with the indigenous population and develop best practice indigenous engagement and recognition strategies
Work with our young people to develop a vibrant youth space in our community
Embrace inclusivity and ensure availability and access of infrastructure and services to all minority groups including disadvantaged, and people with disabilities
Promote partnerships with not-for-profits to deliver Shire activities and assist with infrastructure requirements that support sustainable principles
Establish a community volunteering model that will provide long-term support to community groups

What We're Doing

Some current projects related to the Culture and Community pillar include:

The Shire of Denmark is a proud member of Reconciliation WA
Community engagement began in 2023 for the first stage of the concept designing for the revitalisation of Berridge Park.
In 2023/24 a major review of our Disability Access and Inclusion Plan will be carried out. More information about Inclusion is available on our Access and Inclusion page.
In 2024, we will be developing our first Youth Strategy!
