Next month, the Shire of Denmark Strategic Planning Team invites the community to attend an information session to receive updates on the progress of the Local Planning Strategy Review.
The review commenced in late 2019 and has since expanded significantly in scope while also suffering Covid-19 disruptions and delays due to the sharp upswing in the number of planning applications received by the Shire.
Shire of Denmark Chief Executive Officer David Schober acknowledged the development of the new Local Planning Strategy is taking longer than some in the community may have anticipated.
“The initial scope for the project was far more limited than the comprehensive review we are now undertaking,” Mr Schober said. “The extended scope came about under the direction of the working group and it was agreed the additional work should be undertaken for the long-term benefit of our community.”
“Despite the challenges, our planning team has been steadily progressing the Local Planning Strategy Review while under the pressure of a heavier than normal workload and we are confident the results of their hard work will be worth the wait.”
To keep the community up to date with progress the Shire invites the community to attend the upcoming Community Update scheduled for Wednesday 23 June at the Shire of Denmark Reception Room. In addition, the Shire will broadcast the event via Zoom for anyone who wishes to attend online.
The event will provide detail on the technical assessments being undertaken and reviewed by the Working Group, the next steps and timelines for preparing the Strategy, and an opportunity for community feedback and questions on specific issues that have been identified.
“The Local Planning Strategy is a critical guiding document for the future of our Shire, and we thank the community for their patience and contributions to this important project,” Mr Schober said.
“We hope to see strong attendance at this Community Update event and we encourage questions in advance so we can prepare detailed responses in addition to any questions we may receive on the night.”
A draft strategy is anticipated to be prepared to be put before Council in late 2021 in readiness for further public consultation.
