The Shire of Denmark was recently the proud recipient of the Local Government Merit Award at the 2026 Containers for Change Awards!
A huge thank you to everyone who dropped off a container, everyone in the team behind the scenes, and a special thank you to the passionate locals (you know who you are!) who continue to champion recycling in our community.
Comments from the awards night:
"The Shire of Denmark has demonstrated outstanding community leadership through its commitment to building a whole-of-community approach to Containers for Change. Rather than viewing container recovery solely as a waste management initiative, the Shire embraced the program as an opportunity to strengthen community partnerships, support local businesses, promote sustainability, and keep economic value within the local community. Through strong collaboration with WARRRL, Green Skills, the Denmark Chamber of Commerce, Totally Renewable Denmark (TReD), and the local refund point operator, the Shire transformed Containers for Change into a community-driven initiative that delivers environmental, social, and economic benefits."
"A key achievement was the delivery of 23 public-place Container Exchange Points (CEPs) across strategic community and tourism locations, significantly increasing opportunities for residents and visitors to participate in container recovery. The Shire also supported the establishment and promotion of the local Drop and Go service, helping create a more accessible and convenient recovery network. These initiatives have improved participation in the scheme while ensuring more refund value remains within the Denmark community."
