The bridge on Valley of the Giants Road to the east of Vigus Road was today found to be in serious disrepair following the weekend's rain event, prompting an urgent road closure, impacting Valley of the Giants Road from west of Pascoe Road to east of Vigus Road. This has resulted in the bridge being closed to all traffic.
We recognise this will have a significant impact on local residents and visitors to the area and we apologise for the inconvenience. Our priority is to restore access again as quickly as possible and we thank you for your understanding as we work through this.
The key points for you to know right now:
- DETOUR: For residents and visitors needing to access Valley of the Giants Road and others to the west of Vigus Road, please be aware that access to the western entrance of Valley of the Giants Road from South Coast Highway will not be impacted.
- We are contacting local stakeholders to advise of this closure and detour, including local brigades, and we are installing roadside signage as well.
- TIMELINE: All going well, we expect the road to be reopened on Tuesday, 6th October 2026.
- We do have $1.5m in funding to rebuild this bridge. The new bridge design is currently sitting with MainRoads WA, and once it’s approved, we will be applying pressure on MainRoads WA to commence construction as soon as practicable.
