An exciting new community asset with a youth focus has taken shape in Denmark.
The pump track, made possible by community volunteers and donations, has been constructed near the skate park in the McLean Oval sports precinct off Brazier Street.
The new pump track is the latest activation in the area, designed to provide infrastructure for fun and healthy outdoor exercise for our local youth.
Shire of Denmark Director Corporate and Community Services Gina McPharlin said the track was an exciting example of what can happen when the community pulls together.
“All we did was provide a bit of seed funding support and the community did the rest,” Ms McPharlin said.
“It’s been incredible to watch the spirit of our ‘can-do’ volunteering organisations and community groups as they have worked together to create this exciting new community asset.”
Local organisations donated fencing, site clearing services and gravel, with a community busy bee held earlier this month to complete the build.
“The Shire is proud to have been able to assist on this project which was made possible by our community.”
Ms McPharlin said she hoped this would be the first of many community-led projects, with proposed beach volleyball courts next on the Shire’s radar for the McLean Oval sports precinct.
On behalf of the community, the Shire would like to thank the Denmark Mountain Bike Club and their sponsors Monkey Rock Mountain Bike Company, MCC Contracting, Denmark Building Company and Andrew Richardson, as well as Castle Drilling, for their donations and support of this project.
The pump track will open in the coming weeks after the newly constructed jumps have had appropriate time to settle.
In order to prevent damage to the track while it settles, community members are asked to stay off the track until the fence is removed.
