Two innovative, free 10-week fitness programs are making waves at the Denmark Recreation Centre by transforming how our younger community members build their physical and mental strength.
‘Girl Strong’, designed for girls, and ‘Strength Within’, tailored for boys, offer teens aged 12 to 16 inclusive, martial arts-inspired and strength-based training classes that foster resilience, confidence, and emotional well-being in our youth.
These programs are part of the Shire of Denmark’s ongoing commitment to supporting our young people through inclusive, empowering initiatives that promote mental health, leadership, and community engagement.
Girl Strong is a supportive fitness program designed to inspire and uplift teen girls through a blend of strength training, cardio, flexibility, and mindset coaching, helping girls build body confidence and mental resilience.
Strength Within is a high-energy course that introduces boys to martial arts fundamentals, strength-training and conditioning, and mindfulness practices, and its focus on mental toughness, respect, and personal growth is ideal for boys new to fitness or those looking to elevate their physical and emotional resilience.
Both are led by experienced instructors in a safe, private, judgment-free environment over 10 weeks, and each one-hour session goes beyond physical training and introduces girls and boys to the benefits of mindfulness practices.
Denmark Recreation Centre’s Recreation Services Coordinator, Robina Jones, says this focus on mental health and physical fitness helps boys and girls discover their inner strength, develop discipline, and build the confidence to face life’s challenges.
“We want our young people to feel strong, capable, and proud of who they are, so these classes, which are free and open to all youth in our Shire, are about creating a space where they can thrive both physically and emotionally,” Ms Jones says.
“Strength Within is ideal for boys new to fitness or those looking to elevate their physical and emotional resilience, and Girl Strong encourages girls to embrace movement as a form of self-care, while developing healthy habits and a positive relationship with their bodies.”
The Shire of Denmark is actively investing in youth development by providing access to recreational opportunities through programs like Girl Strong and Strength Within, ensuring that youth in our Shire are physically active, emotionally supported, and socially connected and that Denmark remains a safe, supportive environment where young people can grow, connect, and thrive in our community.
Anyone interested in either of these classes should contact the Rec Centre to find out more.
