New Leadership Welcomed to Shire of Denmark Council

The newly elected Council for the Shire of Denmark gathered yesterday evening for its first official meeting following the recent Local Government Election.

Nine Councillors will serve the entire Shire community. The new Council comprises:

  • Clare Campbell (term expires 2029)
  • Nathan Devenport (term expires 2027)
  • Kingsley Gibson (term expires 2027)
  • Jay Hockey (term expires 2029)
  • Jan Lewis (term expires 2029)
  • Janine Phillips (term expires 2027)
  • Alex Sleeman (term expires 2029)
  • Aaron Wiggins (term expires 2027)
  • Dominic Youel (term expires 2027)

During the meeting, Councillors Kingsley Gibson and Aaron Wiggins were nominated for the role of Shire President.

Following a vote, Cr Wiggins was elected as Shire President, the youngest ever to lead the Shire of Denmark Council.

The position of Deputy Shire President also saw two nominations from councillors Clare Campbell and Nathan Devenport, with Cr Devenport selected to serve in the role.

Newly elected Shire President, Cr Wiggins, says the significance of the Council’s role and expressed optimism for the term ahead.

“Councils are entrusted with a responsibility to act in the best interests of our community and I look forward to working collaboratively with my fellow Councillors to achieve this,” Cr Wiggins said.

Cr Wiggins thanked Cr Gibson and Cr Lewis for their service to the community as Shire President and Deputy President, respectively.

The Shire also extends its sincere thanks to outgoing Councillors Donna Carman and Jackie Ormsby, who were not re-elected to Council, for their contributions to the community.
