The Shire of Denmark is excited to announce that a funding application to the WA Bicycle Network Grants Program has been successful, securing $245,000 for an important footpath connection.

The footpath connecting the WA College of Agriculture to the townsite of Denmark will now link to a one-kilometre-long footpath extension, allowing for safe pedestrian access along South Coast Highway to Woodward Heights at Springdale.

With funding for the project now secure, the design phase is set to commence in 2023/24 with plans in place to have construction underway by December 2024.

The footpath extension will be located on the south side of South Coast Highway, wide enough to facilitate safe shared use.

The formal crossover on the highway will be located in the 60kph zone near the entrance to the WA College of Agriculture.

Shire of Denmark Chief Executive Officer David Schober said the footpath will allow community members to cycle and walk freely to and from Springdale without the danger of being on a major road.

“We know this footpath will be warmly received by residents in the Springdale area, so we’re pleased to have been successful in our funding application on behalf of our community,” Mr Schober said.

“Once the design phase of the project is complete, we’ll have more detailed updates on the timeline to share as we move into construction.”
