Councillor Clare Campbell was elected as the Shire of Denmark’s new Deputy Shire President at last night’s July Ordinary Council Meeting.

Shire President Cr Aaron Wiggins congratulated Cr Campbell and welcomed her into the leadership team.

“The role of Deputy is an important role within local government structure with a greater workload and scrutiny. I really appreciate that we have people in our Shire who are willing to step up into the Council leadership positions, or even just onto Council for that matter. It creates a strong Council to represent a strong community,” Cr Wiggins said.

“I am positive Cr Campbell will represent the whole community well as Deputy and I look forward to working closer with her in navigating our community and Shire forward.”

Cr Campbell thanked her fellow Councillors for their support and looked forward to getting to work in her new position.

“It's a privilege to be entrusted with this role,” Cr Campbell said. “I'm looking forward to working alongside the Shire President and my fellow Councillors to make balanced, considered decisions that reflect the values and aspirations of our community.”

The appointment follows out-going Deputy Shire President Nathan Devenport’s decision to step down from the role earlier this month due to personal reasons.

Cr Campbell was first elected to the Shire of Denmark council in 2021, her current term expires in 2029.
