Major road upgrades, the establishment of a new Denmark Public Library and key recreation infrastructure are among the significant projects and initiatives featured in the Shire of Denmark's 2026/27 Annual Budget, adopted by Council yesterday.
The budget includes a $15.48 million capital works program, with more than $2.8 million allocated to roads, bridges, paths and drainage infrastructure in line with community priorities, including major upgrades to Turner Road, Kernutts Road, Happy Valley Road, Station Road and Sunny Glen Road.
Other major projects include the $5.5 million Berridge Park Precinct Redevelopment funded by Lotterywest, the Commonwealth’s Growing Regions Program and the WA Government’s PlayOn WA initiative which gets underway in a matter of weeks, as well as construction of a new Mountain Bike Trail Network at Turner Road and $150,000 to improve all-abilities access at Prawn Rock Channel.
Shire President Aaron Wiggins said the budget was about supporting a growing community while preserving the character of Denmark.
“People often say Denmark is changing. I think a more accurate way to put it is that things are changing in Denmark,” Cr Wiggins said in his President’s Message.
“The projects and investments proposed in this budget are not about changing who we are. They are about enabling, reinforcing and preserving the character, values and lifestyle that make Denmark such a special place to call home.”
The budget also provides more than $1.07 million in community contributions in an on-going commitment from the Shire to support local community organisations.
“The 2026/27 Annual Budget is how we ensure decisions happen whilst maintaining the services our community expects, investing in renewal and maintenance of community assets, and supporting the work needed for our Shire to grow, adapt and change without losing the qualities that will always make the Shire of Denmark our home.”
