It was a full house at Denmark Public Library last Saturday with award-winning author Dianne Wolfer’s writing workshop capping off National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo).
Dianne shared to a captive audience the details of her writing process – from hand-writing initial ideas to developing various drafts and poring over 100-year-old archival objects for research.
Participants were challenged to write their own life moments in different points of view and two-sentence, work-in-project summaries.
Dianne shared her insights in a Q&A on agents and ways to break into the publishing industry.
NaNoWriMo is a month-long creative writing challenge where participants from all over the world are challenged to write a 50,000 word first draft of a novel.
Throughout November, the Library hosted a series of ‘write-ins’ every Friday to help writers tackle the task. The write-ins were so successful they will continue to run every Friday morning at the Library.
Manager Library Services Robyn Fairclough said Denmark is home to many creative writers and was happy the Library has been able to play a role in helping them develop their writing in a supportive environment.
