At the February Ordinary Council Meeting held this week, contractor Smith Constructions WA was awarded the tender for the major redevelopment project at Ocean Beach.
Following a competitive tender process, Council’s decision represents the final hurdle in the planning process for the Ocean Beach redevelopment project, with the work now handed over to the team of contractors and subcontractors to get construction underway.
With work already commenced on the sea wall portion of the project, Ocean Beach will be a hive of activity in the months ahead.
Construction of the new storage area for the Denmark Surf Club and new public amenities including kiosk will begin soon, with the current toilet block to be demolished and the refurbishment of the existing surf club building to follow.
Contractors will have control of the site until further notice, with the entire redevelopment project expected to take up to two years.
During this time, closures and disruptions will hinder public access to Ocean Beach, with community members and visitors asked to respect all exclusion signage and directions in the interests of public safety and reducing disruptions to work.
The Shire will work with contractors to identify opportunities to reopen beach access during the construction phase when it is safe to do so.
Contractors will work as diligently as possible to deliver their work quickly so we can all enjoy Ocean Beach again as soon as possible, but community members are asked for patience during the redevelopment.
The Shire continues to work closely with the Denmark Surf Life Saving Club and contractors to keep community members informed of progress at Ocean Beach during the works and is committed to providing information about any potential closures and disruptions as early as possible.

Funding for this project is provided through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, Lotterywest, Shire of Denmark, Denmark Surf Life Saving Club and Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communication and the Arts.
