The South Coast Highway (Springdale Beach) Shared Path project between Denmark Cemetery and Woodward Heights, Springdale is approaching completion, with the pouring of its final pavement surface of red concrete and red asphalt marking an exciting milestone for this important community project.

The path extension, which commenced in January this year, is jointly funded by the Shire of Denmark and the State Government through the WA Bicycle Network Grants Program, with additional support from LWP Denmark Syndicate.

The 780-metre shared path, situated on the south side of South Coast Highway, is designed to be wide enough for safe use by people walking, wheeling or riding through the area, and will provide secure access from Springdale to the Denmark townsite.

A highway crossover will be established in the 60 km/h zone near the entrance to Denmark Cemetery.

Shire of Denmark Acting President Jan Lewis said the peace of mind and security this extension to the footpath provides can’t be overstated.

“For our residents in the Springdale area, to be able to get out and get active in our beautiful shire, safely reach the town on foot or by bike, and avoid the risks associated with major roads is incredibly valuable,” Cr Lewis said.

“The secure access to town provided by this footpath extension is essential for those who do not drive while also giving regular drivers the option to leave their cars at home, which will benefit the health and well-being of our community and the environment.”

The project is scheduled to be completed later this month.
