Road safety message from the Shire of Denmark these July school holidays

After a unique and challenging school term, students and teachers are looking forward to the school holidays beginning Friday 3rd July 2020.

For the first two weeks of July, there will be an increased number of children walking, riding and scooting around local streets, as well as more people travelling long distances for their holidays.

With this in mind, the Shire of Denmark is asking all drivers to take extra care during this period.

Councillor and Roadwise Committee Member Roger Seeney said “drivers on local roads are encouraged to slow down, especially around areas like playgrounds and skate parks where children are likely to congregate.

“We remind drivers heading off on a long trip to please ensure they are well-rested and take regular breaks to avoid the dangers of driving tired,” he said.

Given the likelihood of wet weather during the holidays, drivers can help keep all road users safe by driving with their lights on at all times.

Drivers can also ensure they drive to the conditions and leave extra distance between themselves and the vehicle in front.

Please slow down on our roads to keep our community and its visitors safe these school holidays.
