Restricted Burning Period Commenced

As of TODAY Monday 1 November, we have entered the RESTRICTED BURNING PERIOD.
This means permits will be required to conduct any burning activity through until Wednesday 15 December which is the commencement of the Prohibited Burning Period.
If you need to undertake a burn during the Restricted Burning Period, the key things you need to do are as follows:
1. Contact your local Fire Control Officer (FCO).
2. Allow a day or two prior to burning, to obtain a permit. Permits are read out over the radio schedule to all FCOs the following day.
3. If your permit is approved, notify your neighbours and have a second person to assist you.
4. Ensure you have water available to the area you are burning. To ensure the fire is well and truly extinguished, turn the burn pile over and apply water.
5. If you feel the fire is getting away from you, call 000. Fire brigades should be called to respond sooner rather than later - your safety, and the safety of others, is most important.
6. Register your burn with DFES by calling 9395 9209. This will mean that if smoke from your burn is reported, all agencies (Shire Fire Chief, DBCA, their spotter plane) can refer to DFES site for registered burns.
7. Remember, Permits to Burn are issued under STRICT CONDITIONS as listed on the permit and may be revoked at the discretion of authorities.
