Ocean Beach Boat Launching Access to Reopen in February

From Wednesday, 1 February 2023, the Shire of Denmark will reopen the Ocean Beach boat access to recreational boaters.

Boat launching access was closed in December 2022 due to safety concerns related to congestion on the beach and erosion in addition to accessibility to emergency services. The conclusion of summer holidays, subsequent expected decreased in visitation and the increased width of the beach are factors which have made the planned reopening possible.

Representatives from local Police, Denmark Surf Lifesaving Club, Marine Rescue, Denmark Boating and Angling Club and the Shire have agreed that the decision to reopen is acceptable with some alterations to previous practices.

The Shire will increase compliance action against non-authorised vehicles using the beach access track in efforts to ensure Emergency Services access to the beach and water is unimpeded.

Authorised vehicles will be: emergency response vehicles and craft, permit holders, water safety vehicles and craft and vehicles launching or recovering boats.

The parking of vehicles and boat trailers on the beach will be prohibited in addition to parking at the bottom of the beach access.

The Shire is working with all parties to identify new areas for the parking of boat trailers in the Ocean Beach precinct.
