New iPads have been purchased for the Denmark Public Library, allowing vision impaired library members better access to Library services such as electronic resources.
Senior Librarian Robyn Fairclough said the Library team was excited to provide improved accessibility options to our community.
“We are excited to be able to offer vision impaired library members the opportunity to borrow the library iPads to listen to eAudiobooks or read eBooks at home,” Ms Fairclough said.
“Grant funding from the State Library of Western Australia has enabled our Library to purchase the iPads. More and more resources are available electronically but not everyone has the technology or connectivity to take advantage of this so we hope these iPads will help fill in some of these gaps.”
Library members have free access to thousands of electronic resources through platforms such as BorrowBox, Libby, Kanopy and Hoopla, in the form of audiobooks, books and magazines.
Electronic resources can be particularly useful for people who want to listen to a book, or, who want to be able to increase font size to improve readability.
The iPads will be available for use during school holiday Library activities, such as StopGo animation, removing the need for children to bring their own device in order to participate in workshops.
