New Connection Opens For Springdale Residents

The residents of Springdale now have a new way of safely accessing the Denmark townsite, with today’s opening of the completed South Coast Highway (Springdale Beach) Shared Path connecting Woodward Heights to the existing path at the Denmark Cemetery.

The shared path has been jointly funded by the State Government and the Shire of Denmark through the WA Bicycle Network Grants Program, with additional support from the developer of Springdale subdivision.

The new 780-metre shared path, running along the south side of South Coast Highway, will safely accommodate people walking, wheeling or riding between Springdale and Denmark Senior High School and further to the Denmark townsite.

A crossover is located in the 60kph zone near the entrance to Denmark Cemetery and has been constructed to maintain as much of the natural surroundings as possible.

For our Springdale residents, the Shire of Denmark Acting President, Jan Lewis, says this shared path is more than just a new method of safely reaching the town or high school on foot or by bike.

“The safety and security this extension to the existing path into town provides, as well as the positive impact it will have on our environment in allowing residents to leave their cars at home, can’t be understated, and yet it’s also so much more,” said Cr Lewis.

“A walkable neighbourhood is a happier community; just the ability for our seniors and young families to get out and walk or cycle on a secure path, without the risks posed by a main road, and to enjoy the natural beauty of our Shire, is such a positive outcome for the well-being of our ratepayers.”

Cr Lewis said she hoped to see families, children, and our seniors, walking and spending quality time together along this new addition to the Shire of Denmark’s shared pathway infrastructure.
