The latest addition to the McLean Sports Precinct was formally opened on the weekend, thanks to enthusiastic volunteers and generous donations.

Two new permanent beach volleyball courts now have pride of place near the recently completed pump track in another youth and recreation focused investment in the area.

Shire of Denmark Director Corporate and Community Services Gina McPharlin said the new courts are another example of the possibilities that can be achieved when community groups and volunteers pool their energies.

“Much like the recently completed pump track project, this new community asset is a testament to the vision and determination of a community group to increase participation in volleyball, with the benefit of promoting physical activity and social cohesion.”

The Shire contributed $15,000 to enable the project, which was pulled off by the hard work of the Denmark Volleyball Club and generous donations from local businesses, community groups and individuals including Rivermouth Caravan Park, Brett Lamb, Stockdale Building, MAcD Plumbing, Ocean Beach Earthmoving, Thorntons Hardware, Teahouse Books, and Jazmin Maher, Albany Volleyball Club and Denmark FM.

“On behalf of the community, I’d like to thank everyone involved for making this important new community asset come to life,” Ms McPharlin said.
