From this month, Denmark’s McLean Oval will be kept green thanks to a new recycled wastewater irrigation system that will see up to 30 million litres of water diverted from a nearby treatment plant.
The project, delivered in partnership with Water Corporation, represents another goal achieved under the Shire’s Sustainability Strategy in line with community expectations.
Local residents were regularly engaged with throughout the pipeline construction and testing phases, with Shire representatives pleased to meet at McLean Oval with Water Corporation, the Member for Warren Blackwood, Jane Kelsbie MLA, and the Minister for Water, Simone McGurk MLA, recently as the irrigation program prepared to go live.
Denmark Shire President Kingsley Gibson said Council was proud to be delivering another sustainable outcome for our community.
“This is another meaningful project which will have a real and positive impact on our water usage locally,” Cr Gibson said. “Our community is full of proud recyclers, so it’s only fitting that our beautiful green oval will stand as a testament to that local recycling ethos.”
Once up and running, ongoing water quality monitoring will ensure this valuable water resource remains safe and available to use.
