The Shire of Denmark has one less gravel road, with the final stages of a major capital works project now complete.

Kernutts Road – the most trafficked road by heavy vehicles in the Shire of Denmark – has been subject to a major upgrade in recent weeks, with the extensive project including the cleaning and reshaping of drains, culvert and headwall repairs, and the installation of a compacted gravel layer, concluding with the entirety of the road being widened and sealed to its full width.

The road is now equipped to withstand increased demands due to the extra heavy vehicle traffic expected into the future, ensuring efficiency and safety for all users.

Denmark Shire President Kingsley Gibson said the project highlights the Shire's commitment to delivering projects that meet local needs and priorities.

“We are pleased to deliver this major roads project for our community which demonstrates our commitment to delivering on the ‘Local Roads and Storm Water Drainage’ priority that our community told us they wanted us to focus on, as outlined in our Strategic Community Plan,” Cr Gibson said.

"The conclusion of the Kernutts Road major upgrade, marks another milestone in our ongoing efforts to deliver on that commitment and we look forward to continuing our ongoing work to improve our more than 600km road network."

"Ensuring the comfort and safety of all road users is of utmost importance, and I hope regular users of that road will enjoy the upgrades," he added.

The newly upgraded road will be available for public use by the end of the week.
