The Shire of Denmark is pleased to announce that a section of Wilson Inlet has been officially named in honour of the late James (Jim) Hart, who left a major mark on the community before his passing in February 2022.
The cove located behind 107 & 109 Minsterly Road was proposed as the site to be named as this was where Mr Hart lived and spent many years launching his boat and teaching his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to fish.
Mr Hart’s involvement in the community included his role as a volunteer ambulance driver, founding member and inaugural captain of the Denmark Fire Brigade, as well as his tenure as Denmark’s volunteer fisheries officer for the Department of Fisheries.
Denmark Shire President Kingsley Gibson said that he has a deep appreciation for individuals like Mr. Hart whose contributions enrich the lives of those around them, and highlighted the importance of recognising the valuable efforts of dedicated members of our community.
“We are so lucky to have individuals who are so dedicated to our community. Community members like Mr Hart are the ‘hart’ and soul of our town. It is only fitting that this cove in Wilson Inlet be named in his honour, as it serves as a lasting reminder of his remarkable contributions and legacy.” Cr Gibson said.
“It is important that we recognise dedicated members of our community and show them how grateful we are for all that they do in the community as they are role models for the future generations.”
This decision comes following approval by Council during the January Ordinary Council Meeting, which was then passed to Landgate, before the Shire received confirmation of approval in early February, confirming this heartfelt tribute to a beloved member of the community.
