Last week, the Shire of Denmark partnered with the Denmark First Scouts and the Denmark Community Resource Centre to host Seniors Week 2021.

The week kicked off in style on Monday with 65 in attendance at the Seniors Luncheon at the Denmark Scout Hall.

The colourful affair was catered by local business Wholly Local, MC’d by local personality Gertrude WellEase and with classic tunes performed by local musician David Rastrick.

Guest speaker Steph Marsh from Great Southern Consumer Protection gave a presentation about Scam Awareness.

Door prizes were generously donated by Amaroo Village and Denmark Community Resource Centre.

Shire of Denmark Chief Executive Officer David Schober said the annual Seniors Luncheon is a lovely way to recognise the role seniors play in the fabric of the community.

“Our seniors are a treasured part of our community here in Denmark,” Mr Schober said.

“They have spent their lives contributing to the community which continues to benefit from their experience, wisdom and character, so putting on a lively schedule of activities and events for Seniors Week is our way to say, thank you.”

Following the Seniors Luncheon on Monday, a schedule of activities followed for the week, targeting social isolation and highlighting on-going programs which are operating in this space.

“We hope to drive awareness for the programs for seniors which are available in our community,” Mr Schober said.

Activities took place across town with the Denmark Recreation Centre, Denmark Public Library, McLean House and Denmark Community Resource Centre all hosting Seniors Week events.
