These exceptional ladies love their community, and the community adores them!

The library team shone in the latest community survey results, with 98 per cent of respondents giving library services a whole lot of love! Manager of Library Services Robyn shares:

"I have worked at the Denmark Library for nearly 20 years. The library staff put their hearts into creating a welcoming and engaging place for residents and visitors, so we are thrilled and humbled by the latest feedback from our community who has always supported us so well.

For us, it's about helping to instill a love of reading from an early age, and connecting people to their community - from a new mum looking to meet other families, to someone wanting to read poetry or Shakespeare with a group of like-minded literature lovers.

Children and families have been an important part of my work at the library. I love when a child gets the reading bug and gets excited about their book. It's wonderful to see the children I knew as babies, now as young adults, love books and have happy memories of their little local library.

Since working at the library we have introduced the Toy Library, Rhyme Time with Pat, the Reading Corner and Parenting Room. We were one of the first libraries take on the Better Beginnings Family Literacy program, which is so close to my heart as it allows me to encourage parents to start reading to their babies as soon as they are born and continue reading to them throughout their childhood. We know that this is so important for babies and their development.

In 2015 the Denmark Library was nominated for the ALIA Australia’s Favourite Library and was awarded Australia’s Favourite Rural Library after the community rallied behind us throughout the campaign. This was such an honour. We have also been fortunate to have some wonderful author visits including Judy Nunn, Isobel Carmody, Craig Silvey and Marieke Hardy.

The role of libraries has changed over the years. Libraries today are more than just a building full of books. We are safe places that bring people together, where everyone is welcome. We are social places for meetings, offer gateways and guidance to knowledge-seekers, and are the first door to learning for young children.

We are so lucky to have such an excellent team at the Library who love what they do and enjoy working together. We have a lot of fun and I think that makes our environment enjoyable to those who come to the library.”
