Children's Book Week in Denmark is always such a joy, with wonderful children, enthusiasm about books, and amazing costumes.

Each year across Australia, the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) brings children and books together celebrating CBCA Book Week.

Last week, Denmark celebrated Book Week with children, teachers and librarians from the Denmark Public Library joining in to celebrate great books, talented authors and illustrators and to share the joy of reading as a community.

Book Week at the Denmark Public Library was very eventful this year with staff members dressing up each day as different book characters, and with plenty of fun filled school visits.

Classes from Spirit of Play Community School braved the weather to visit the library and all the kindergarten students from the Denmark Primary School and Spirit of Play received a special book pack from the library as part of the state-wide Better Beginnings program.

Denmark’s celebration of Book Week finished with fantastic and fun school visits with children’s books author and illustrator Gabriel Evans.

Gabriel did an amazing job inspiring budding authors and illustrators from Denmark Primary School and Spirit of Play Community School.

The children truly enjoyed making a picture book character and a hilarious adventure for the character!

Denmark Public Library Senior Librarian Robyn Fairclough was thrilled with all the events saying the imagination of children is unlimited.

“Book Week is of such value to our community because getting children interested in books and reading has benefits that will continue for a lifetime,” Ms Fairclough said.

“Connecting with the children, schools and the community in such a fun and engaging way is such a positive experience for us each year.”

The Denmark Public Library would like to thank the State Government of Western Australia, Lotterywest and Healthway Go for 2&5 and the Children’s Book Council of Australia WA Branch for their support of CBCA Book Week.
