The fences are up, the construction team is on site, and work is officially underway for the $5.5 million revitalisation of Berridge Park.
Shire President Aaron Wiggins and fellow Councillor Nathan Devenport were on hand this week to welcome and thank representatives from the funding bodies who made the project possible, including Minister for the Great Southern Reece Whitby.
In the coming months, community members will watch the old playground area of Berridge Park transform into a fun nature-scape playground, complemented by shaded barbecue areas, gardens and a brand new public amenities building, including a completely accessible ‘Changing Places’ facility.
The old gravel carpark and basketball courts will become completely unrecognisable with a new multi-use court, bouldering and climbing area, table tennis and chess areas and a bespoke-designed skatepark for locals of all ages and abilities, thanks to extensive community input during the design process.
These new features are designed to sit sympathetically within the mature trees of the park, with additional landscaping and trees to be installed to further enhance the feel of the new assets resting within our natural environment.
Shire President Aaron Wiggins thanked the community for participating in the engagement and design process in recent years as the project has taken shape.
“While there is still the entire construction to go, the commencement of work on site is such a huge step,” Cr Wiggins said.
“With the existing components now gone, you can really appreciate the scale of the facilities we will have on our river foreshore and how that will retain that ‘Denmark feel’ amongst the trees and nature.”
“I am excited to watch the development over the coming months and the anticipation grow as we get closer to the reopening of the Park.”

The Berridge Park Revitalisation is a fully funded project, thanks to generous funding from Lotterywest, the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport’s Play On WA initiative and the Commonwealth’s Growing Regions Program.
