The Shire of Denmark is encouraging all residents to prepare early for the upcoming bushfire season, with the 2025/2026 Firebreak and Property Management Notice (FPMN) arriving in mailboxes this week.
The annual notice, which outlines the steps every property owner must take to help reduce bushfire risk during the maintenance period from 1 December 2025 to 30 April 2026, is the first and final notice residents will receive.
This year’s FPMN includes information on the burning periods and what actions are permitted during these times, the responsibilities and requirements of property owners to meet compliance, the rules around camp and cooking fires, and other useful information to help our residents meet their obligations.
Shire President, Kingsley Gibson, said bushfire preparedness is something our community takes seriously, as reflected by the number of properties found to be compliant over the previous bushfire season.
“Over 80% of inspected properties across the Shire were found to be compliant during the previous maintenance period, which is incredible to see,” Cr Gibson said.
“I thank everyone for doing what is needed to keep our community safe during bushfire season.”
The Shire’s Authorised Compliance Officers will begin compliance inspections from 1 December, and fines may apply for properties that don’t meet the requirements of the notice.
Compliance inspections will continue throughout the season, and properties could be inspected multiple times during this period and must remain compliant throughout to avoid receiving an infringement.
To support residents, the Shire continues to offer resources via our website, including the free Book a Ranger program, available until the end of November.
“We encourage residents to act early, use the support available, and ensure their properties are compliant before December.”
Residents will receive this year’s FPMN with their Rates notice, either posted to them or as a link if they receive their rates notice via email.
