About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Senior Ranger, the Ranger is responsible for delivering a high standard of community education, compliance and local law enforcement services throughout the Shire of Denmark.

This position is offered on a 12-month maximum-term contract to cover a period of parental leave and provides the opportunity to work in a varied and rewarding role that contributes directly to community safety, environmental protection, and responsible community behaviour. There is also the possibility of extension.

The successful applicant will be a positive team member with a strong customer focus, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to providing professional and consistent ranger services to the community.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake proactive and reactive ranger patrols throughout the district.
  • Enforce and administer relevant legislation, regulations and local laws.
  • Respond to customer requests, complaints, enquiries and correspondence.
  • Issue infringements and provide verbal and written warnings as required.
  • Conduct firebreak and hazard inspections.
  • Undertake animal control and management activities, including dogs, cats, livestock and snake handling.
  • Support educational programs relating to ranger services within the community.
  • Prepare reports and maintain accurate compliance records.
  • Monitor Council reserves and public spaces to ensure appropriate use.
  • Participate in the Ranger Services on-call roster.
  • Assist other Shire departments as required and contribute to a positive team culture.

 

 

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have -

  • High level of customer service to provide community education and law enforcement in Local Laws, Acts of Parliament and Regulations.
  • Experience in a compliance, regulatory, investigative or similar role.
  • Well-developed communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Sound judgement, integrity and discretion when exercising statutory powers or dealing with sensitive matters.
  • The ability to interpret and apply legislation and prepare reports.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Sound computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Confidence to undertake field duties, animal handling, inspections, evidence collection, record keeping and computer-based administration.
  • A current C Class Driver's Licence.
  • Current National Police Clearance or the ability to obtain.
  • The ability to pass a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol screening.
  • Must be able to participate in a week on/week off on-call roster.

Desirable

  • Regulatory Officer Compliance Skills (ROCS) 1 and 2 qualifications.
  • Experience in Ranger services, local government compliance, law enforcement, animal control, or another public-facing regulatory role.
  • Ability to obtain a firearms licence.
  • Completion of accredited snake handling training.

Hours – Full-Time 76 hours per fortnight.

Term – 12-Month Maximum Term (Parental Leave Cover) with possibility of extension.

Salary - $80,502.24 per annum plus allowances.
