About the Opportunity

The Shire of Denmark is seeking a motivated and community-focused Casual Ranger to support the delivery of ranger services, compliance activities, and seasonal fire prevention programs.

Reporting to the Senior Ranger, the successful applicant will undertake a diverse range of duties including community education, local law enforcement, animal management, firebreak inspections, and responding to customer enquiries. This position offers flexible casual employment with opportunities to work across a broad range of compliance and community safety functions

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake proactive and reactive ranger patrols throughout the Shire.
  • Enforce and administer relevant legislation, regulations, local laws and Council policies.
  • Conduct firebreak, hazard and private property fire compliance inspections.
  • Investigate and respond to customer requests, complaints and enquiries.
  • Undertake all aspects of animal control and management, including dogs, cats, livestock, pound operations and snake handling.
  • Issue infringements, notices and warnings in accordance with relevant legislation and local laws.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records, evidence, photographs and compliance documentation.
  • Prepare reports and correspondence relating to ranger, compliance and fire inspection activities.
  • Support community education initiatives relating to fire prevention, animal management and ranger services.
  • Monitor Council reserves and public spaces to ensure appropriate use and compliance with Council policies.
  • Liaise professionally with residents, visitors, property owners and community groups.
  • Assist team members from other departments as required and contribute to a positive team culture.
  • Undertake additional Ranger Services duties as directed by the Senior Ranger

 

 

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have –

  • High level of customer service to provide community education and law enforcement in Local Laws, Acts of Parliament and Regulations.
  • Experience in a compliance, regulatory, investigative, emergency management or similar role.
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills, including strong negotiation and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Sound judgement, integrity and discretion when exercising statutory powers or dealing with sensitive matters.
  • The ability to interpret and apply legislation, policies and compliance requirements.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Good record-keeping and evidence-gathering skills.
  • Sound computing skills, including Microsoft Office and the ability to utilise tablet-based inspection and reporting systems.
  • Confidence to undertake field duties, animal handling, inspections, evidence collection, record keeping and computer-based administration.
  • The ability to work autonomously and exercise sound judgement.
  • Current National Police Clearance or ability to obtain.
  • Current C Class Driver's Licence.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment medical including drug and alcohol screening.

Desirable

  • Regulatory Officer Compliance Skills (ROCS) 1 & 2 qualifications.
  • Experience in Ranger services, local government compliance, law enforcement, animal control, or another public-facing regulatory role.
  • Bushfire compliance or fire inspection experience.
  • Ability to obtain a firearms licence.
  • Completion of accredited snake handling training.

Employment Type – Casual

Hours – As required, including weekends, public holidays and school holiday periods

Salary - $44.22 per hour to $48.14 per hour (inclusive of 25% casual loading), dependent on qualifications, skills, and experience.
