About the Opportunity
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced and proactive communications professional to join the Shire as our Communication & Engagement Officer.
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, this role is responsible for leading communication and community engagement activities across the organisation. You will work collaboratively with employees, management, Council and the broader community to strengthen stakeholder relationships, improve engagement capability, and ensure clear, meaningful and effective communication.
This position offers a unique opportunity to influence strategic outcomes, champion best-practice engagement, and help tell the stories that showcase Denmark as an outstanding place to live, work and visit.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement and evaluate communication and community engagement strategies.
- Provide communication and engagement advice to support projects, services and stakeholder engagement activities.
- Build communication and engagement capability across the organisation through guidance and support.
- Monitor community and stakeholder issues and provide advice on emerging risks and opportunities.
- Support Council, Executive and Management with community insights to inform decision-making.
- Prepare high-quality communication materials including media releases, website content, newsletters, videos and social media content.
- Create positive stories and campaigns that enhance the Shire's reputation and strengthen community pride.
- Contribute to strategic reporting activities, including preparation of the Annual Report and planning documents.
- Promote innovation, continuous improvement and best-practice community engagement approaches.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have -
- Demonstrated experience in communications, community engagement, stakeholder relations, public relations or a related field.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience developing engaging content across digital, social and traditional communication channels.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build productive relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- The ability to provide strategic advice and support across a broad range of projects and initiatives.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media platforms.
- A solution-focused approach, initiative and a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Local Government experience (desirable).
Essential Requirements
- Experience relevant to the key responsibilities of the role.
- Current C Class Driver's Licence.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver effective communication and engagement outcomes.
- Commitment to the Shire's values and customer-focused service delivery.
- Ability to build positive working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.

Employment Type – Perm Part – Time 0.5 FTE
Hours – 38 hours per fortnight (19 hours per week)
Salary - $83,872.57 Pro Rata
