About the Opportunity
Are you passionate about civil works and working outdoors? We’re looking for two reliable and motivated Machine Operator / General Hands to join our Civil Infrastructure team and help maintain and improve essential community assets.
As a Machine Operator / General Hand, you will play a key role in maintaining the Shire’s infrastructure, including roads, drainage, and public spaces. This is a hands-on role requiring strong teamwork, safety awareness, and a commitment to delivering high-quality work for the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Construct, repair and maintain roads and infrastructure.
- Perform drainage and vegetation maintenance.
- Operate a range of plant and heavy machinery.
- Conduct daily vehicle and equipment safety checks.
- Work both independently and collaboratively within the team.
- Maintain plant, vehicles, and depot facilities.
- Provide professional and courteous service to the community.
- Assist with cemetery preparation and general duties as required.
About You
- To be successful in this role, you will -
- Have experience in civil works, road maintenance, or similar.
- Be safety-focused with a strong understanding of workplace health and safety
- Be reliable, self-motivated, and has a “can-do” attitude.
- Be able to work as part of a team and adapt to changing tasks.
- Have strong communication and interpersonal skills
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 2 years’ experience operating heavy equipment.
- Current HR Driver’s Licence
- Construction Safety Awareness (White Card)
- Ability to perform manual labour and be physically fit.
- Strong commitment to safety and safe work practices
- Ability to work an on-call roster.
Candidates must be willing to complete a pre‑employment medical (including drug and alcohol screening) and provide a current National Police Clearance.
Desirable
- HC or MC Driver’s Licence
- Backhoe experience
- Drainage experience
- Front-end loader experience
- Traffic control certification
- Plant operation tickets
- Chainsaw certification
- First Aid Certificate
