Nuisance Pets

Nuisance, created by a cat or a dog, can include excessive noise and constant barking, intimidating behaviour and regularly entering someone else' property due to being poorly contained.

Dogs

Although barking is a normal behaviour for dogs, excessive barking can become a nuisance.

Some dog owners might be absent for long periods during the day and unaware of their dog's barking.  Residents are encouraged to first contact the owner of dog and politely inform them using our Dear Neighbour - Nuisance Dog Letter.

If nuisance created by a barking dog continues, the Shire of Denmark's process for addressing complaints about barking dogs on neighbouring properties is outlined in our Barking Dogs Information Sheet and Process Map.

Residents are required to provide a record of the frequency of barking, as well as the suspected cause, to support their claim in reporting excessive barking to the Shire. Our Barking Dog Diary can be used to record this information, and must be provided with a Barking Dog Complaint Form.

Cats

Nuisance created by cats can include attacking other cats, noise from fighting or mating, territory marking and defecating, and killing wildlife.

Please read the Shire's Nuisance Cat Fact Sheet to see how you can prevent your cat from creating nuisance.

If you are experiencing nuisance created by a cat, and suspect the owner is unaware, you can also contact them using our Dear Neighbour - Nuisance Cat Letter.

Residents can also hire cat traps, free of charge, from the Shire if they are experience nuisance created by a poorly contained cat visiting their property. To hire a cat trap, a bond form must be completed at the Shire of Denmark Administration building. Residents should contact Ranger Services or our Customer Services team to discuss hiring a cat trap.
