The Shire of Denmark is working hard to remediate the old Shire Depot site on Hardy Street to ensure development of Amaroo’s 40-bed aged care facility can begin by early 2020.

Shire President Ceinwen Gearon, CEO Bill Parker and Director Assets and Sustainable Development David King met with the Amaroo Board and executive team last Friday to discuss the remediation process and the facility.

Being a former Depot, the Shire is required to deliver a ‘clean title’ prior to any development commencing.

A Remediation Action Plan and Tender documents for remediation are currently being developed to meet this requirement.

The Shire anticipates that the site will be ready for development in late 2019/early 2020, subject to a successful tender and budget process.

The facility will include aged accommodation, specialist dementia care and respite services and is expected to provide 42 jobs during construction and a further 66 jobs from ongoing operations.

The Shire is pleased to be working in partnership with Amaroo to deliver this very important project.
