Shopping assistance and food drive for residents at-risk

Shire of Denmark in partnership with the Denmark Community Resource Centre is working with local businesses to ensure vulnerable residents receive their groceries without having to visit a store.

Residents at-risk of COVID-19 including older people and people living with disability who don’t have access to the internet can now call the Shire’s customer service staff and have an online shopping account set up on their behalf.

An account will allow residents to place orders over the phone with their chosen business, with the business then picking items and delivering to the customer’s door.

Residents who sign up for the service will be asked to sign an indemnity and will need a credit or debit card.

The Shire has also been supporting the CRC with coordinating a food drive for residents in need by engaging sporting clubs and local businesses to help meet the demand.

The Shire’s Clubs Officer Julia Scriven said recruiting local sporting clubs is helping to build a stronger community.

“Having the sporting clubs involved strengthens club ties to their members, businesses, community organisations and the wider community which ultimately means a more resilient community now and on the other side of the pandemic,” she said.

Eligible community members interested in setting up an online account through the Shire can call 9848 0300, download the registration form here, or pick up a form at either the Shire Office or Recreation Centre (in plastic sleeve by main entrances)Denmark Community Resource Centre or Supa IGA. Forms can be returned via post PO Box 183, Denmark WA 6333, or left in the secure mail box at the Shire Office building.

People experiencing financial hardship are able to register their interest for the Food Drive by calling the Denmark CRC.

The Shire is looking to expand the services to ready-made meals for more vulnerable community members including older residents and people living with disability.
