Seniors Week revisits the Swinging 60s

A full program of activities is in store for local seniors next month in celebration of Senior’s Week, with the “Summer of 69” the theme for the program’s cornerstone luncheon event.

The theme for the luncheon commemorates the 50-year anniversary of major cultural milestones in history including the moon landing, Woodstock, the last year before the Beatles split and more.

This year’s event promises to be fun and engaging with plenty of entertainment, delicious food and prominent guest speaker and author Dr Noel Collins.

Guests and their carers are invited to join in the fun and dress up for the event, with prizes for best dressed.

Other events on offer include a two-day expo at Denmark Community Resource Centre, and health and fitness activities.

A repeat of last year’s successful Inter-generational Table Top Games which saw over 100 Denmark Primary School students challenge seniors to classic board games and share a morning tea is on again at the Denmark Recreation Centre.

Seniors Week runs from 11th to 15th November and provides opportunities for social interaction, community involvement and recognition of seniors’ contributions to the wider community.

Seniors Week is presented by the Shire of Denmark in partnership with Denmark Community Resource Centre and support from COTA WA.

The luncheon is free and will be held at the Denmark Civic Centre on Friday 15 November from 11.30am to 2pm. Places are limited. RSVPs are essential by phoning 9848 0300 or emailing Community Development Officer, Claudia Simpson cdo@denmark.wa.gov.au before 8th November 2019.
