Published on Tuesday, 18 October 2022 at 8:10:14 AM

The Council have made a new local law titled, Shire of Denmark Cats Local Law.

The purpose of the local law is to set a ‘standard number’ of cats that may be kept on premises and deal with cats that may be a nuisance as defined in the local law.

The effect is that persons must not keep more than the standard number of cats (two) unless provided for by the local law, the Cat Act 2011 or its associated Regulations, or be a nuisance as defined in the local law to persons in the district.

The Local Law can be found on the Shire’s website at https://www.denmark.wa.gov.au/our-council/key-documents/local-laws.aspx and copies can be inspected or obtained from the Shire’s Administration Office.

As a consequence of the new law, the following new fees and charges have been adopted and will be included in the 2022/23 Fees & Charges Schedule.

Keeping more than the standard number of cats:

  • Renewal Fee (clause 2.7)        $100
  • Transfer Fee (clause 2.8)        $100

The new law and fees and charges will come into effect on Monday 7 November 2022.
