Shire of Denmark, in partnership with Movies with Meaning, is supporting Dementia Action Week 2021 with a free movie screening of June Again.
This year’s Dementia Action Week set to be held on 20 – 26 September with the theme of ‘a little support makes a big difference’.
The campaign focuses on supporting and celebrating carers of people living with dementia.
According to Dementia Australia, an estimated 472,000 Australians live with dementia and 1.6 million people are involved in their care. Dementia is the second leading cause of death for Australians and the leading cause of death for women.
June Again tells the story of June who has dementia and in a fleeting bout of lucidity has precious little time to bring together her estranged children, save the family business and rekindle an old flame.
The free screening is at 7pm Saturday 25 September 2021 at the Denmark Civic Centre. Bookings can be made online.
Shire of Denmark Community Development Officer Rosie Arnephie said the partnership with Movies with Meaning to bring this free screening to the community was about raising awareness.
‘We’re aiming to raise community awareness of the impact of dementia and hopefully to continue to lead the discussion about discrimination, which we know has a big impact on people living with dementia, their families and carers,’ Ms Arnephie said.
