Hazard Reduction Burn Scheduled for April

Published on Wednesday, 7 April 2021 at 10:27:16 AM

The Water Corporation and Department of Fire and Emergency Services, together with the Shire of Denmark Volunteer Bushfire Brigades, intend to conduct a hazard reduction burn within Water Corporation property and part of Reserve 36260 (unallocated crown land).

This burn is currently scheduled to be undertaken in the month of April 2021. The scheduling of the burn is dependent on weather conditions and could be subject to change.

The burn is part of an ongoing program to reduce the fuel levels and risk of fire to properties from potential wild fires within this vicinity.

The burn is expected to take four days including mop up operations, during the burn residents may experience periods of smoke and ash fall. Throughout the operation all tracks and trails will be closed to residents and the general public until the area has been assessed and considered safe for public access.

The risk to properties during the burn is considered to be low so residents should follow standard property protection measures:

  • Close all windows and remove washing from clothing lines on the day of the burn.
  • Stay clear of fire operations during the burn.
  • If you have asthma or a respiratory condition please contact us to let us know so that we can give you notice on the day so that you can plan to stay inside or be away from the area during the day of the burn.

If you have any further questions please contact Shire of Denmark Community Emergency Services Manager Lee Shelley on (08) 9848 0300.
