Denmark’s youth have been the driving force behind planning Denmark 4Youth Fest 2019 – a weekend-long celebration of youth culture and participation as part of National Youth Week.
The festival was developed by the Shire of Denmark in partnership with students from Denmark Senior High School with support from Albany Youth Support Association, Denmark Community Resource Centre and Denmark Arts.
Now in its second year, the event will run over two days – 4Youth Music Fest on Friday 12th and the 4Youth Fest on Saturday 13th April.
Friday’s event, open to 12-18 year olds, will be held at the Denmark Civic Centre and will headline local soul-rock indie singer-songwriter Clay Western and popular DJ Dan FX. Youth bands from Denmark Senior High School will express their musical creativity while a dance competition will allow festival-goers to show off their dance moves.
Saturday’s event will be held at Denmark Skate Park and is open to youth of all ages. It features a free skateboarding workshop and skills competition presented by Skateboarding WA. All equipment will be provided as well as some great prizes.
Free Art workshops, nail art and henna tattoo stalls, a whirlybird ride, a giant bouncy castle and face painting will be on offer. Food stalls and a sausage sizzle by the Denmark Men’s Shed will also be at the event.
Shire of Denmark CEO Mr Bill Parker was impressed with the level of engagement and creativity shown by young people who were integral in developing this year’s events.
“We are really proud of our town’s youth who, with the support of Denmark Senior High School, have jumped on board to help design and drive their own event for their peers alongside our community services team.
“The result of this collaboration is a vibrant, engaging and inclusive event that appeals to our young people,” he said.
The event is jointly funded by the Shire of Denmark, Department of Communities and Denmark Local Drug Action Group.
Tickets for Friday’s event are available at the door or at https://www.trybooking.com/BBQZG and are limited due to venue capacity. All 4Youth Fest 2019 events are alcohol, drug and smoke free.
