Councillor Steps Down For Personal Reasons

Mr Steve Jones resigned this week as an Elected Member for the Shire of Denmark citing personal reasons.
The departure took place with immediate effect but ratepayers are assured Council will continue to operate as per normal until the new vacancy may be filled. Mr Jones was one of nine Councillors, elected in the Scotsdale/Shadforth Ward in 2019.
Shire of Denmark Acting CEO David Schober will request Council write to the WA Electoral Commission to request no extraordinary election be held and that the vacancy be included in the upcoming biennial local government elections to be held in October 2021.
Mr Jones represented the Shire of Denmark on the Wilson Inlet Catchment Committee and the Denmark Community Resource Centre. In addition, the Shire of Denmark valued Mr Jones’ input as a member of the Shire’s Sustainability Strategy, Waste Reform Working Group and the Audit Advisory Committee.
On behalf of the Shire, Mr Schober extended his thanks to Mr Jones for his service and wished him well in his future endeavours.
