Denmark Shire Council this afternoon voted to defer debate on the annual budget with a new special meeting set to be scheduled later in the month.
Shire President Ceinwen Gearon moved to delay proceedings in order to give Councillors more time to consider the proposed budget.
The motion was carried unanimously.
It came as new information came to light before today’s meeting in which Councillors agreed they would require more time to consider.
The proposed two-week extension provides Council the ability to obtain further information on the inclusion of a lease liability into the 2021/22 budget and to consider the need to include funds in the budget for emergency remediation works at Ocean Beach and the Denmark Surf Lifesaving Club, following advice received today from a coastal engineering consultant.
“It is critical Councillors are given adequate time to review the detail which informs our annual budget,” Cr Gearon said.
“We have therefore made the responsible decision to defer our debate for a brief period so Council may have sufficient time to review the information, ask officers any questions they may have and to consider their vote with the full information at hand.”
