Eleven local community, sporting and cultural groups have received a total of $35k towards community projects as part of the Shire of Denmark’s 2019/2020 Community Financial Assistance Program.
The program encourages community based, not for profit organisations to apply for funding for projects that benefit the community.
Groups could apply for minor grants ($201 to $5000) and major grants (over $5000).
27 applications were received, requesting a funding total of $122,663.70. The 2019/2020 Budget allows for $35k towards the program, with Council utilising the full amount to fund the projects.
A workshop and consultation was held for staff and Councillors to discuss the merits of each application according to the program’s criteria and guidelines.
Groups received funding towards a range of projects including two inaugural Denmark events in 2019 – the Great Southern Classic Car Show and the WOW Trail half marathon coordinated by the Denmark Running Club.
Manager Corporate Services Lee Sounness said he looks forward to the projects coming to fruition with the financial boost the program offers.
“From the successful applicants, we will see the delivery of some wonderful projects and events in the coming twelve months that support the health and creativity of our vibrant community,” he said.
