Bushfire Prepardness Survey

The Shire has entered into a partnership with Department of Fire & Emergency Services (DFES) Community Preparedness Branch and the Bushfire Risk Management Branch, to deliver a Bushfire Preparedness Survey. The survey is being managed by an independent research company, Research Solutions.

The State Government has supported the Shire of Denmark to participate in the Bushfire Risk Management Planning Program. This has enabled the Shire to complete a comprehensive assessment of bushfire risk within the Shire and commence development of a local Bushfire Risk Management Plan.

Under the plan, the Shire will undertake a range of activities to minimise the risk of bushfire to residents.

Private property preparation and personal preparedness plays a significant role in overall bushfire mitigation and your participation in this survey will help DFES and the Shire understand more about what Denmark residents are doing to prepare for the risk of bushfire and how we can improve our community engagement and bushfire mitigation program to make our community safer in the event of a bushfire.

There are two outcomes we are hoping to achieve from the survey:

  • Gauge current levels and attitudes towards Household preparedness, this will assist us in future community support and education programs
  • Gauge attitudes to bushfire risk and bushfire mitigation techniques available, to advise our future mitigation programs and education opportunities about these methods.

This survey has been sent to a sample of households in the Shire of Denmark and is expected to take about 20 minutes to complete.

If have any questions about this survey and why it is being conducted, please contact Melanie Haymont at the Shire of Denmark on brpc@denmark.wa.gov.au or 9848 0300.

A summary of the results will be published on the Shire’s website in 2020.
