Restricted Burning Period
There are two restricted burning periods within the Shire of Denmark each year that run from;
- 1st November to 15th December
- 1st March to 30th April
During these periods you must obtain a Permit from a local Bush Fire Control Officer to undertake a controlled burn on your property. There is no charge for a permit.
It is the permit holder's responsibility to comply with the conditions set out in the permit, see page 12 of the Fire Regulation Notice.

You could be fined up to $4,500.00, if you fail to obtain or comply with a permit and any of the listed conditions.
Prohibited Burning Period
The prohibited burning period for the Shire of Denmark is from 16th December to the last day of February.
During this period you must not light a fire in the open air.
You could be fined up to $10,000.00 and/or jailed for 12 months, if you light a fire during the Prohibited burning period.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE SHIRE OF DENMARK HAS THE ABILITY TO ALTER THE DATES OF THE RESTRICTED AND PROHIBITED BURNING PERIODS IF SEASONAL CONDITIONS WARRANT.

Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade Assisted Control Burns
As property owners are responsible for any fires lit on their property and the potential expenses should a fire escape their control, it is possible for the Shire of Denmark Volunteer Bush Fire Brigades to assist you, at a fee for service, conduct a control burn at your property to reduce fuel levels. This will enable experienced firefighters to plan and undertake the control burn in a safe manner whilst utilising modern fire fighting equipment.
