Our friendly rangers provide an important community service, from keeping an eye on many things from lost pets to working with Emergency Services and enforcing our Local Laws.

What our Rangers Look After

Our Rangers face challenging daily issues, animal control and bushfire risk reduction being an important part of the daily duties carried out by the Shire of Denmark. This includes dealing with reports of wandering dogs and livestock, kangaroos, snakes and firebreak and fuel management of your property. Where possible, they aim to resolve problems via discussion, negotiation and public education. 

Ranger Services is not limited to the above, the team also performs a wide range of responsibilities aiming to provide you and the rest of the wider community with a number of services, including:

  • enforcement of Local Laws, Acts of Parliament and Regulations
  • ensuring access to facilities and amenities through equitable parking management and control (street, verge and car park control)
  • preventing and deterring people from littering and dumping rubbish (litter control)
  • dogs, cats, livestock and wildlife control and management
  • cat and dog registration and tips on how to look after your pets
  • returning lost pets to their owners and finding new homes for stray animals
  • reporting and removing abandoned vehicles
  • dog exercise areas, patrols of parks, reserves and buildings
  • unauthorised signs in public areas
  • assisting in the management of events
  • control of street traders
  • working with the Local Emergency Services teams to create a safer community

There’s also an emergency after-hours service in case you need to contact a ranger after normal business hours.
