Denmark Youth Abseil off the South Face
Fifteen young people followed the footsteps of Mountain Designs recent Great Southern Adventure Race.
The young crew had the opportunity to do the extreme section of the race. They travelled using a series of flying fox and abseil jumps. Most of the attendees did between 6 and 10 jumps. The wild weather that had been forecasted held off but the wind tunnelled across the rock and large gusts added to the excitement.
Adventure Out Challenge Leader Brayden West highly commended the group as they assisted and supported each other in this testing and tricky environment, really demonstrating their team work skills and providing practical logistical assistance to the organisers.
Youth Coordinator from Denmark Youth Centre Mr Aaron Bailey said “It’s great to build on existing programmes with organisations like Adventure Out as it provides new opportunities for young people.
It’s always good to see the rise in young people’s confidence as they step up to these challenges especially while enjoying their own local natural environment.”
This recent endeavour was an extension of the challenge/leadership camps which the Shire of Denmark and the Denmark High School have worked on together on for the last 8 years; funded by the Department for Child Protection.
