Gold Coast Commonwealth Games 2018

The Queen's Baton Relay is on its way to Denmark!!!

Queens Baton

The Queen’s Baton Relay is a Games tradition that celebrates the Commonwealth’s diversity, inspires community pride and excites people about the world-class festival of sports and culture to come.

The Queen’s Baton carries a message from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II that calls the Commonwealth’s athletes to come together in peaceful and friendly competition. Starting on 13 March 2017 at Buckingham Palace, the Baton will travel on an epic 388-day journey through all nations and territories of the Commonwealth.

The uniquely designed Baton starts its Australian journey on 25 December 2017, 100 days before the Opening Ceremony.

The Queen’s Baton will arrive on the Gold Coast for the XXI Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony on 4 April 2018.

Across Australia, hundreds of people will get the opportunity to engage with the Baton as it spends quality time in the regions, arriving in Denmark on 22nd February 2018!

We are proud to announce the following 13 deserving community members who have been selected as successfully nominated batonbearers to carry the baton in the Denmark route.

Karen Andersson Jack Batchelor Damien Boyle Murray Brooker Joseph Burton

Community Celebration

As part of the relay, Denmark has been selected as a Host Community and the Shire of Denmark will be hosting a Community Celebration that will take place at Berridge Park on Thursday 22nd February 2018 from 11.45am to 12.45pm, to welcome the Queen's Baton and a celebration of our local baton bearers.

The Community Celebration will include live music, past Commonwealth Games gold medal winner and interviews with two of the local baton bearers.

Everyone is invited to be a part of the nationwide celebrations, watched by millions around the word, by lining the route of the Queen's Baton Relay to cheer on the local baton bearers and to attend the Community Celebration in Berridge Park.
